NZ Idol 1: IF SIMON COWELL WAS ON NZ IDOL??

Submitted by hams_coconut on 1 June, 2004 - 12:29am

just a little curious what everyone think about this. . . . .??
If Simon Cowell was a guest Judge on NZ IDOL (which I really highly doubt that it would happen) would he like any of our contestants?

I really honestly think that Simon would be giving ** to all the contestants!! (excuse my language)

Ive been looking at the USIDOL and I think that the standard of their singing ability is far higher than ours! - as an example look at the new American Idol. Her last performance was sooo good - she totally belted it out! IN comparison with our IDOL its a bit lost! If a voice would reflect a persons strength I would say that she would squash Ben! not that hes a bad singer or anything!

so what do you think?

This is a really old thread

This is a really old thread that has been brought to the top!

But thinking, if Simon Cowell was on NZ Idol'  it would certainly make the show something to look forward to and enjoy watching.  The standard should improve too, because the competitors would know they'd better improve and take advice.

he'll like steve .I HOPE HE

he'll like steve .I HOPE HE DOES BE NZ IDOL JUDGE when i'll audition when i am older

Comment

I - in all honesty - think he would be impressed with Ben!!

Comment

dont think so!
there were those brothers that reminded me of him (besides the shaved lines in their heads) and no way did he like them!! - and I dont think that he'd like Ben!

Comment

they were not as good as Ben I think. not strong as ben. one of them sang the same song as Ben sang at b4 top 10 and Ben was way better.
I thoght the same, vee.

Comment

well - we'll find out I guess at world idol...

Comment

Hams_coconut, you are confused dude. Firstly you ask for comments then you diss the comments. Grow up, get a life and move on.
Simon Cowell would love BEN to bits and the reason would be is because BEN is a real professional artist in the truest sense. If you had your ears opened then you would have known what sort of idol they were after. look forward rather then backwards....KAPEESH!

Comment

actually if Simon Cowell was judging our idol, I think he would've spotted Bens talent way before our judges did!! - they seemed to have their heads in the sand whenever Ben performed - it was really strange I thought.... When he sang Back at One it was SO GOOD - just way above the others - good grief - most of them werent even singing in tune!! - and then fiona rubbished him - I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!!!

Comment

I agree Ben did a better version of whatever that song that brother (Noel or Jesus or whoever it was) sang...but not that much better. Ben would get trounced. I'm sorry to say it, but it's true.

And easitman - when hams_coconut is dissing the comments, it's called a debate .

Comment

weLL honestly...he wouldn't be impressed at aLL..our top 10..wouldn't have half the people in it...lets say who would've made it through if Simon was in it...he'd only like...

CAMILLIA & DAVE

thats aLL because to be honest..those two were the only one who had it voice wise...Ben has come along way...but if simon was there...Ben probably wouldn't even make top 5 and Jessie would not have been wildcard but they would be top 10...juss some were a tad...uh..hmmm..better thaN those actuaLLy choseN...

[[Go BeN]]...hehe

Comment

I THINK THT SIMON WUD BE REALLY IMPRESSED BY OUR TOP 10 ACTUALLY.

MAYBE A FEW OF THEM DIDNT DESERVE TO GET INTO THE TOP 10 AT FIRST BUT THEY IMPROVED- WHICH IS WOT THIS COMPETITION IS ABT!!

I THOUGHT THT BEN WAS GUD AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COMP. BBUT BY THE END HE WAS AMAZING!! DID U HEAR THT LONG NOTE THT HE SUNG AT THE NATIONAL ANTHEM? THT WAS AMAZING!! TRY GETTING RUEBEN STUDDARD TO SING THT!! HE WUD RUN OUT OF BREATH (I HAV NOTHING AGAINST RUEBEN BUT C'MON HE WUD HAV RUN OUT OF BREATH!!) AND HE WON AMERICAN IDOL !!!

SO I THNK THT SIMON WUD BE IMPRESSED!!

Comment

Enough with the caps already...

Comment

Who cares what goes on with American Idol And Simon Cowell? They are two completely different competitions...

This was our first NZ Idol - it's America's third. There are more people in America, and hence the talent is a little more widespread...

We've got talent in NZ and plenty of it...I thought our first NZ Idol comp went pretty well.

Who knows - Simon might have liked quite a few of our top 10 - we're never to know that though - so - who cares?

We have our Idol and that's all the counts!

Comment

hmm.....

Comment

I would honestly say that impressing Simon (not that we should have to) would be a good way of knowing wether or not the standards of our IDOL is good enough!! cos I believe if we can actually impress the unimpressable then I say that IDOL is ready for something outside NZ!

EASITMAN - that whole second paragraph doesnt make sense! it sorta is lost with a bunch of points that are just. . . .JUMBLED! I guess you dont know what the word DEBATE means! so why dont YOU grow up and reply back when you have found a dictionary!!

SUGAGIRL - you know it doesnt even matter how many IDOL shows NZ ends up having. Even comparing our first idol with the US' first idol (Kelly Clarkson) and ummm yeah still she would take Ben down! and AUS idol's first (Guy Sebastian) umm yeah dont make me say it again!
I assumed that NZ would have the "widespread" talent you talk about! but obviously not! I guess their "widespread" is just better!

Just so you know - Im not a Ben hater! I think that hes pretty good! just that I really hoped NZ had the top talent that the other countries had!

Comment

If Simon were a guest judge on our Idol...

There would have been a lot of tears.

Comment

If Simon was one of our judges -

The ratings would have rocketed!!!

Comment

Hams_coconut, If only you knew what the word debate means. I guess the only way to prove you wrong is to see what happens in world idol. Even then I don't think you'll be convinced since you're already made your mind up without stating any facts....KAPEESH!

Comment

It's funny how Dicko was the best judge on the show and what did he have to say about BEN.....I rest my case cause Simon would've said the same....KAPEESH! From what I've seen of A3, apart from a couple the rest weren't worth mentioning so your socalled theory just blew out the window.

Comment

hams_coconut...

Don't get your knickers in a twist little one...a comment's a comment's a comment...

Oh dear...is that the kindy bell? Time to go home...do say hello to mummy - Oh and pick that dummy up on your way out...there's a good boy!

Comment

I think Simon would have absolutely LOVED Camillia.

Simon wouldn't have let Ben, Michael, Eddie or Jessie through though.

Comment

Shiet, it's heated in here, lol. Is it really worth the white hairs? lol.

We all know (or do we), that NZ Idol didn't showcase all the best of the bestest unsigned talent, but don't bag the ones that did make it thru. It's been weeks, months?? since the show ended......get a new hobby. Why does it surprise not not surprise u that the ppl on AI3 are more talented? Who dominates our airwaves? Who makes more moolahs off of music? Who completely misses NZ to only perform in Aussies? Haha@ that one........damn u yankees!!

It would've been cool to have Simon on the show, I don't think he would have had any nice things to say about Camillia, Dave, Robin, Ben.......shiet, the whole lot!!

Comment

I think the only person simon would like is Camillia......she honestly did have the best voice..( but Michael's better)

Comment

I agree cant decide... that is totally true...

Comment

Simon wouldn't like Camillia, he would say she was a twit, which she is. He liked Clay, but hated Kelly and I'm not really sure how he felt about Ruben. Sure, NZ Idol is not as hot as American Idol, but have you ever stopped to think that they're better over there because he's pushing them? Perhaps if he was a judge on NZ Idol, the same would happen. Just a thought though not a fact, so don't get cranky if you don't agree.

Comment

Simon didn't like Clay. Simon was always 'You're suposed to be on Broadway.' EVERY night Clay sang.

Comment

No he wasn't, he liked Clay. At teh beginning he always said that, but Clay calmed down, they supressed the winking and cheesy grin lol just like Mike lol. But Simon did pick Clay for the winner, but then Ruben took the title.

Comment

one good thing - with all the criticism that Ben took thruout the show - he will have hardened up to it just a little bit - (altho it does always hurt) -

Comment
Simon wouldn't like Camillia, he would say she was a twit, which she is.
uhh HELL NO shes not...she rocked
GOOOOOOOOO CAMILLIA!!!!!

Comment

She couldn't even sing she just yelled the whole time. Yelling and projection are different you know.

Comment
IF SIMON COWELL WAS ON NZ IDOL??
i would be too scared to audition
hes a very scary man

Comment

I think he'd gave bad singers an earful and say to the good singers that was okay just okay

Comment
She couldn't even sing she just yelled the whole time. Yelling and projection are different you know.
Please don't confuse Michael with Camillia. Camillia had a wonderful voice, what she was doing was called singing in key unlike some people... She was not yelling or screaming she was hitting high notes.

Comment
but hated Kelly
Didn't you hear what he said to Kelly in world idol, he doesn't hate Kelly. Simon isn't a go go happy guy.

Comment

Woohoo... Simon is cool!

Comment

It would be good if Simon will be a replacement for Paul Ellis next season but I know it won't happen but Guest Judge is also good. If that's really impossible Dicko should just replaced Paul Ellis coz it will be funny to hassle a judge from another country like Simon being hassled in America for being British.

Comment

oh was that the dry and lame kiddie bell ringing? sugaKIRL I think you better leave now - do say hello to your mom! and do take that book of "** and pointless comments" on your way out!
better luck next time! spend a few more dollars on a better book of insults! so maybe when you have something in return to say to me other than a lame insult - try your luck then!

once again EASITMAN - you dont make sense!
ummm I take it you didnt know that Dicko and Simon are not the same person! and a comment from ones mouth doesnt automatically come out of anothers! yes they are two harsh judges but their standards are too indifferent! simons being higher if you didnt know!
you must not remember the NZ IDOL groups because if you really, and I mean REALLY compared these idol "theory notes" - you would see that US IDOL is at a much much better!
whats with the "KAPEESH" its lame and stupid - start another trend that doesnt make you look so stupid!

and HELLO? I would have to agree with others in here about Simon Liking Camillia! she would be one of the closest contestants that would actually get a good comment from Simon! - SHE DOESNT scream - she holds notes really well! there are a few times that she has a funny part to her singing but you say it as if she screams all her songs like some punk band!

Comment

I think he might like Ben. I mean Bens a good singer, hes just not very exciting. I think Ben and Camillia may of had a chance

Comment

Hams_coconut, You certainly must have been standing under a coconut tree and a couple of direct hits haven't managed to find a crack in that head of yours. Once again you bleet about A3 idol been much better without facts and simon been higher standards then dicko...hello! you twitch....get a life, grow up, and post threads that make sense not some drummed up crap you bleet you sing in the shower NUT!

Comment

oops sorry hams_coconut, didn't see your positive comment about Camillia. Given that Camillia would've kicked some ** over there it's not surprising you finally agree. Given that BEN won NZIDOL, surely it must mean he's good at something, even if it's only his strong unique voice, stage moves and presense, versatility and interpretation....oops I think that makes him a complete performer aye! you DUH! was there anyone in A3 with all of the above...I don't think so.......KAPEESH you Ki'o.

Comment

hams_coconut

You really ARE a treat LOL...I can see that cranking your chain doesn't take a lot.

Hmmm...you know what? You must have a pretty clean backside because all the crap is coming out of your mouth!

Cheers little one!

Comment

Eastiman - you must not have seen the top 12 american idol finalists perform because I reckon that a large majority of them would have squashed NZ IDOL contestants like a BUG!!!!
I never get sick of the coconut on the head insult! maybe something new will ACTUALLY get me angry! weird enough that you take the insult from my name "hams_coconut" umm lets take your name. . .its a little jumbled and looks confusing . . . .but thats what all of your comments seem to look like! and about Camilla . . she was my favourite from the start so . . . there was nothing agreed with you seeing that you never said anything about it! and if you were talking about everyone else then oh well!
and about Ben - hes none of those things! - I can say that he can sing. . . . . .ummm. . . . .thats it!
lets take the american winner Fantasia! she had an amazing soulful voice! she had stage presence that would catch your eye! shes got a the whole singing package! I dont honestly see that in Ben! - and once again I say I dont hate Ben!!
WHATS WITH EVERY PART OF YOUR COMMENTS INVOLVING SOMETHING THAT DOESNT MAKE SENSE! - ITS REALLY HARD TO REPLY TO. . .
!!BLAH BLAH BLAH!!

Comment

SugaKirl
cant leave you out of this. . .
someone must have left you in the desert
cos you have been nothing but dry!

oh by the way what does "cranking your chain" mean? never heard it before - so theres nothing to even reply to!

honestly I cant be bothered replying to your comments because theyre nothing but empty dry comments!

If you want someone to have a insult battle with I insist going to the mirror! im sure you will get a lifetime worth of insult to give that "person"!!

Comment

hams_coconut, shame you listen to to much american crap. Fantasia is american crap, she might have a good voice but her accent puts me completely off and I only saw her sing once. The other girl definitely deserved it in my book. Shame you know nothing about singing otherwise it would've been interesting Debating with you.....down a narrow minded one way street!

Comment

PAHHH LEASE!
The points you try to make are far out too confusing to even read! so how in goodness name could I possibly conjure up a good debate with someone that cant even put two words together! sorry easitman but you are out of my very safisticated league! lol
I never said I dont like New Zealand music! I just think America has brought alot more talented musicians then us! sorry to burst your bubble!

Comment

It would be interesting! I think the top 10 would be alot different but I still think ben would win!

Comment

Er... I liked Ben well enough, but I don't think that Ben, Camillia or any of NZ Idol's top 12 could start to compare with singers like Fantasia Barrino, George Huff, Jennifer Hudson, or LaToya London.

(Even rejected singers like Suzy Vuluca and Lisa Leuschner would have killed our contestants.)

Frankly, I think that Simon would have despaired over all of our contestants.

Paulini and Guy are the only two Australasian competitors who I could see in a top 12 in the US (although they wouldn't win), but I wouldn't send over a single one of our contestants. (It's not as though NZ lacks talent, but NZ Idol was hardly representative of it.) It wouldn't be fair.

I like Fantasia precisely because I don't consider her a diva in the over-used Whitney/Mariah/Celine sense of the word. True, LaToya and Jennifer were "belters", but not Fantasia who gives off much more of a Billie Holliday, Dinah Washington vibe. Her voice is like Aretha Franklin-meets-Randy Crawford, and she (along with George) has a very old school, deep southern sound that I like.

While I hear shades of other artists, her voice is unique and I like the fact that she has her own definitive style and phrasing and doesn't resort to mimicry.

I think Fantasia has a lot of potential to be a real artist. She is an expressive singer, has superb interpretative ability, is an engaging performer, and unlike many established artists she actually understands that singing is about conveying the lyrics of a song, and communicating with people - NOT just holding a note for 20 seconds or running up and down a scale.

I also realise that her voice won't be to every one tastes, but in this instance I agree with Simon - she's the best idol contestant that I've ever seen.

Comment

here here!!
totally agreed with!
that was very nicely said!
