General: ***BREAKING NEWS*** 19 Entertainment vetoes Ben's song choice

Submitted by The Critic on 29 September, 2006 - 10:13am

In a move that is bound to cause stress, Top 5 contestant Ben Hazlewood, has had his song choice for Pop week, an original that he had written himself, vetoed by the powers that be at 19 Entertainment one day before the show is to be recorded. It is our understanding that 19 didn't want an original sung until the Grand Final.

This late change has meant that Ben will only have one day to rehearse a song already cleared by 19 for use in the show - Teddy Gaiger's For You I Will (Confidence).

This has put Ben in a most disadvantaged position being 3 days behind the rest of the other contestants just because he put himself out there and if he goes this week then that will be an absolute crime.

However, the producers of the show, South Pacific Pictures, did go in to bat for Ben but were unsuccessful in convincing 19 that it would be a good move considering all the recent publicity surrounding comments from some of the NZ Music industry's heavy weights.

On a side note, the sixth season of American Idol which is currently in auditions is supposed to have a songwriting/original element to it this year.

Ew he's gonna get the

Ew he's gonna get the sympathy vote now. I bet this was a set up cus like he was in the bottom 2 last week and they want him to stick around so now the judges can  mention he had to change his song choice at the last minute and everyone will be like awwwwwwwww poor baby :P

Although, I love the song he is going to be doing now.

As it happens...there is

As it happens...there is officially notnsupposed to be any mention of the change to the public...

Thats is not fair. At least

Thats is not fair. At least stop the bagging now.

I wouldn't think they would

I wouldn't think they would even talk about it :-( - cos it makes them look disorganised... plus most of the TV audience wouldn't know that he was going to do it - only Idolbloggers

It was in the Sunday

very true, they wont even mention it on the show I think

That's cruel! Why did they

That's cruel! Why did they leave it so late to tell him?! Poor guy. Hope you do okay, Ben!

Ok rage against the

Ok rage against the machine Ben!

I read this on his myspace-

I read this on his myspace- GUTTERED! Stupid Idol :s

They could have done

They could have done something new, something a bit innovative but ... no.

*gives the finger to 'the man'*

Poor Ben, they should have had this sorted days ago.

Well make sure you tell all

Well make sure you tell all your friends to give Ben their support more than ever this week.

OK I'm a bit lost.  If an

OK I'm a bit lost.  If an original is forbidden until the final how come SSP weren't aware of it beforehand?  Shouldn't it be stated in a contract or something?

I can't believe they left it

I can't believe they left it so late

That's disgusting! It

That's disgusting! :@ It should've been sorted straight away so he had the same amount of time to rehearse as the others. Surely they could've said so earlier.

Ben really did put himself

Ben really did put himself out there in chosing to sing his own song...why was it left until the last minute to make a decision as to whether or not Ben could sing an original? The judges are always hassling the contestants about what it is like in the real world of music - well why not let a contestant peform the type of thing he would perform in the real world and then let people judge on that?
