NZ Idol

If you were planning on giving the NZ Idol auditions a miss this year because you thought the prize of a record contract just wasn't worth it then perhaps you had better think again.

In late January, Idolblog.com put forward some suggestions for the third series which included giving the winner of the show a car, in line with what other idol franchises around the world give to their winners.

This year, the producers have not only come to the party with a yet to be released Daihatsu SUV, they have put up $50,000! That means, after you've been dumped from SonyBMG you will actually have some money to employ some real professionals and produce a decent album. Or you could just fly off to Fiji and sip margaritas for 6 months.

Daihatsu

We think this is a fantastic prize considering the poor deal the previous winners have gotten. In any case, this year's winner will at least have a car and $50,000 for their trouble even if SonyBMG can't produce an album for them with great original songs that can actually chart. Who knows. Perhaps it'll be third time lucky and they can prove themselves

Details of the NZ Idol 3 audition application form will be made available as soon they are announced. We will link to the application form as soon as it is available.

The Edge

NZ Idol host Dominic Bowden will be on The Edge on Tuesday morning talking to Mike, Jay Jay and Dom about this year's show.

LOLOL, how quickly things can change :-)

More people work during the

More people work during the week than at weekends so I guess they're catering for the majority, which makes sense.

On the ad on tv about nz

On the ad on tv about nz idol, it now has a picture of the new car the Idol will win :D

I jus read the article on

I jus read the article on Stables in the Womans Day and they said that the winner only gets the car for one year!!!!.....does anyone know anything about this?

Correct ... it is not yours

Correct ... it is not yours to own and sell. It goes back.

I think it's totally

I think it's totally misleading to promote the car as a prize without saying it's not to keep.  Surely Daihatsu could give a car away, it's pathetic to provide it for just a year!

Watch this space ..........

Watch this space .......... things may change now that people are talking about how stink it is that the car goes back!

Incidentally, it is quite common with car prizes, that the winner only gets to keep them for a year and then they go back to the distributor.  Suckarooney!

Yeah  it might be common,

Yeah  it might be common, but usually it is clearly stated as part of the promotion.  In the case of NZ Idol it has never been mentioned ANYWHERE that the car is just for a year, and I find that very misleading.

Agreed. Normally the

Agreed. Normally the promotion is "win a car for a year", but there's been no indication of that so far.

I think you could find

I think you could find that  ... "it's all been a terrible misunderstanding".  :-)

How absurd :O  At least it

How absurd :O

At least it gives them transport to get to gigs independently :P

It's a wack looking auto - I wouldn't want one even if someone gave it to me for a year :P

Yeah it sure is one fugly

Yeah it sure is one fugly car!

totally agree, there is no

totally agree, there is no point to an suv if you are in the city and have no family.

What a ripoff!

What a ripoff!

Indeed! Smash it up before

Indeed! Smash it up before you you give it back  hehe ;)

And that'd probably come out

And that'd probably come out of their $50,000...

Yeah!

Yeah!

Right.

Right. :P

I've seen the car and it's a

I've seen the car and it's a crap car for an SUV. Who cares, they get to keep the $50,000 and that's great.

Majority of society or

Majority of society or majority of audtionee's? Because a lot of audtionee's will be school/uni kids who have part time work on the weekends. But on the other hand they will have school/uni during the week. Meh. Either way you can't please everyone.

Screw the majority

Screw the majority :@ LOL.

Also; use the reply link instead of posting at the bottom of the thread. It's less confusing.

Oh yeah, that's easier!

Oh yeah, that's easier!

It's just Saturday and

It's just Saturday and Sunday, so you won't need a day off work.

Um. What about those who

Um. What about those who work on Saturdays and Sundays? Like me... even though I'm not applying, but that's not the point.

Audtions are on 3rd and 4th

Audtions are on 3rd and 4th of June(Sat & Sun), as far as I know you can turn up on either day (in previous years you have had to come on a set day) and there will be open-calls too I think. Theatre round is at end of June - start of July. Oh and first auditions are at Auckland Performing Arts Centre in Western Springs.

really? is that 100%

really? is that 100% confirmed for Auckland?   guess that puts me back in the "should I go or should I not?" category.

Yes 100% confirmed. If you

Yes 100% confirmed. If you get through you must be available on either the Sunday (if you audition on Sat) or Monday the 4th. Looks like you might be needing that 10th day off radio school after all.On that note I wonder what radio stations will be there this year..I guess the obvious Flava, The Edge, ZM and More FM, if they haven't decided it's just not worth it.

Unfortunately Monday the 5th

Unfortunately Monday the 5th is a public holiday, which means we will probably have to go throw the pain of seeing Liz again.

Somehow, I don't think the producers are going to indulge her with any air time though this year ;-)

I'm counting on you for the

I'm counting on you for the latter nevrulz ;)        ...........*crosses everything as well - just in case*

how do you know this

how do u know this allready

Because they've already sent

Because they've already sent out acceptance letters. I got mine on Tuesday.

And as an aside... do you know about the name-change amnesty? If they freeze your name as "I'm back with darrel", what are you going to do next time you break up with him?

Hmm... Is it normal for

Hmm...

Is it normal for people to get 'letters of acceptance' at different times?

My younger sister applied quite early and resides in Auckland as well.

Yeah don't stress. Send

Yeah don't stress. Send another form if you're really concerned heh. But apparently didn't Megan say there will be open calls on the day anyway? If so you don't need to even bother applying.

My guess is she will post

My guess is she will post about the break up allllllll oer idolblog and then create yet another new account :)

I can't afford that 10th day

I can't afford that 10th day off radio school. I'd feel guilty so if I go along I'd better have a saturday audition.
